A Monthly Business Review (MBR) is a regular, structured meeting held by an organization, department, or team to evaluate performance—often against set goals or targets. Traditionally, MBRs involve slide decks and presentations that take hours or even days to prepare manually.

But what if we could automate these repetitive reporting tasks using a Business Intelligence tool? What if a dynamic report could replace static slides and free up time for deeper analysis and more strategic work?

That’s not just a good idea—it’s absolutely possible. And that’s exactly what I implemented with the Foresight BI Pharmacy Monthly Review Report.

Project Background

Foresight BI Pharmacy has a strong MBR culture that emphasizes team performance. Every month, leadership and team managers meet to review how each sales team is performing. The goal of this project was to automate the MBR reporting process using Power BI, eliminating the need for manual deck preparation and creating a report that ensures accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.

MBR Requirements

A typical MBR presentation at Foresight BI Pharmacy includes the following for each team:

  • Total Sales

  • Monthly Sales Trend for the calendar year

  • Sales by Sales Rep

  • Sales by Channel

  • Sales by Sub-Channel (within each channel)

  • Sales by Product Class

  • Detailed Product-Level Table

Each of these views must show a comparison to target in order to track performance effectively.

My Power BI Solution

Armed with the MBR requirements, I developed a Power BI report that automates the entire process. The report delivers:

  • Total Sales per Team

  • Monthly Sales Trend (calendar year)

  • Sales by Sales Rep

  • Sales by Channel

  • Sales by Sub-Channel, using tooltip charts

  • Sales by Product Class

  • Product-Level Details, accessible via a drillthrough page

The report is dynamic and interactive:

  • It supports monthly filtering via slicers.

  • It's built to scale with data growth (data increments).

Conclusion

By transforming a traditionally manual process into an automated Power BI report, I streamlined Foresight BI Pharmacy’s MBR process—enabling faster decision-making, cleaner insights, and more productive meetings.
